Veterans Day was originally named Armistice Day, founded on November 11, 1919. Armistice represents a truce or agreement made by opposing sides in a war, and this date marked one year after the end of WWI. Armistice Day was officially named a national holiday in 1938 and was later amended by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 to include all veterans.
